Staying overnight in an igloo should definitely get a spot on your bucket list, if that isn’t the case already. For those who are not afraid of the cold and love spending time in the snow, is sleeping in an igloo the perfect adventure and there are several places in Europe where you can do it.
Before you go, make sure you pack your warmest pyjamas and thermal clothes to stay cozy and, of course, prepare for delicious warm meals and hot teas. We’ve highlighted 5 of our favourite destinations:
This incredible village in Austria offers several types of igloos to stay in overnight. You can upgrade your stay to a romantic igloo (for adventurous honeymoons?) and can even combine your stay with nights in an igloo and their hotel. Not only can you sleep there, they also offer activities such as snow football, snow tubing, a husky workshop and you can even learn how to build your own igloo!
This must be one of the most impressive villages of all as Kakslauttanen offers you a view of the northern lights from your bed if you plan your trip in the right season. But don’t worry, their collection of glass igloos will give you the ability to stargaze any night of the year! The igloos even come with your own personal sauna, if you weren’t convinced yet. When you feel like exploring the area you can go on a snowmobile safari, snow fishing or horse-/sleigh riding.
Just as good as the previous one is this village, Levin Iglut, that has the same incredible opportunity to view the northern lights from your glass ceiling. They offer heated igloos with your own shower, kitchen and a comfortable bed. You can even bring your kids as they have bigger ones available!
Switzerland is not shy when offering igloos as they have several igloo parks across the country. You can enjoy this crazy adventure in Davos Klosters, Gstaad, Zermatt, Engelberg, Schilthorn and Stockhorn. Their igloos vary from standard, romantic (plus or suite), family, hot-igloo, the love nest and star-igloo.
These amazing seasonal igloos are located just outside of the Bella Vista Mountain Refuge. Every year they only build 2 or 3 igloos so consider yourself special if you visit one of them. It comes together with a hot tub and sauna outside to complete your snowy getaway.
